JARMAC Editorial Fellowship Call for Nominations

The editorial leadership team for the Journal of Applied Research in Memory & Cognition seeks nominations for an Editorial Fellowship position commencing in January, 2027. This fellowship aims to create opportunities for training, mentoring, and relationship building, while helping to develop the next generation of JARMAC reviewers and editors. It offers emerging scholars the opportunity to become more involved in the activities of the journal. The fellowship is a one-year appointment and includes an honorarium of US$1,000.
Qualifications
Applications for the fellowship are open to early-career academics, including postdoctoral researchers and faculty (typically within 10 years of PhD completion, though motivated requests for extension will be considered). Current members of the SARMAC Governing Board are not eligible to apply.
Applicants should demonstrate:
Scholarly expertise relevant to JARMAC's scope.
Strong scientific judgment and written communication skills.
Experience with peer review.
A commitment to rigorous and transparent research practices.
The potential to benefit from the fellowship and contribute to the journal community in the future.
This fellowship is intended to broaden participation and opportunities to become involved in the editorial work of the journal. In evaluating applications, consideration will be given not only to applicants' expertise and experience, but also to their potential to benefit from the fellowship, including whether the fellowship would provide opportunities that may not otherwise be readily available to them.
Responsibilities
The fellow will work closely with the Editor and Associate Editors to develop editorial skills and gain experience in the responsibilities associated with journal decision-making
Over the course of the fellowship, the fellow will be mentored to serve as the action editor on approximately six manuscripts. This process will include screening manuscripts for appropriateness, identifying reviewers, making an editorial decision based on reviews, and shepherding the manuscript through to publication if accepted. The fellow will work alongside the Editor, who will review and co-sign editorial decisions as part of the training process.
The successful candidate will meet monthly with the Editor (and/or Associate Editors) to ensure goals are met. Most of these meetings will be video teleconferences, although in-person meetings at scientific conferences are also possible. Following successful completion of the fellowship, the fellow may be invited to continue their involvement with JARMAC through service on the Editorial Board.
