Tools & Resources

Below are links to a variety of websites and programs that graduate students have found useful (or funny).

Research Randomizer
Tired of drawing numbers out of a hat? Use the Research Randomizer to randomly select or randomly assign participants. The free program allows you to generate random numbers based on your specifications. The program is free to use from www.randomizer.org

G*Power
Download the latest version of G*Power (Mac and PC versions available). The program is free to download and use. G*Power can calculate the power of a variety of tests and tell you how many participants you will need to run your study. Follow this link for more information.

W.I.S.E. (Web Interface for Statistics Education)
Whether you are struggling with your first statistics class or you just need to refresh your existing skills, this website is a great resource. There are online tutorials and exercises for students and teachers. And the website is absolutely free!

Ph.D. Comics
Hours in the windowless dungeon, I mean lab, getting to you? Take a break and read Jorge Cham's hilarious comic strip about graduate student life. You can also put yourself on the mailing list and they will email you a few comics a week. This is a MUST read for any graduate student.

Here are a few of my personal favorites:
Grad Student Motivation Chart
Grad Student Etiquette
Deciphering Academese
Addressing Reviewer Comments
Food Chain
Seminar Bingo
Analysis of Value
Grad Student Work Output Chart

Statz Rap Video
Still need a break? Watch this rap video about statistics, very funny!
